About the Program

During the summer, qualified Flagship scholars travel overseas to approved locations in the Arab world (Morocco, Jordan, and Oman).

Previous programs were held at Qasid Arabic Institute in Jordan where students were able to attend intensive courses in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), Arabic Media, and the Levantine dialect, and to immerse themselves in Jordanian culture. The Levantine dialect course develops the participant's colloquial language skills so they can use it in daily life, with the help of a language partner who will interact with them exclusively in Levantine Arabic.

The Overseas Summer Program also offers excursions and cultural enrichment through field trips and activities throughout the summer. This summer, participants in the Flagship Overseas in Jordan may have the opportunity to have an official tour of Amman and Aqaba and the chance to visit historic wonders like Petra and the Dead Sea. In Jordan, students stay in Qasid housing, just a short walk to classes, and have ready access to study labs, food, and bustling city centers.

Arizona Arabic Flagship students who achieve language proficiency requirements for this program may receive competitive Flagship scholarship funding sufficient to cover a large portion of their program fees. Additionally, Arizona AFP FLAS recipients may use their FLAS to help cover program costs.

Other Summer Program Opportunities

The Arizona Arabic Flagship Program encourages students to participate in intensive summer study programs. Intensive summer study helps students prepare more quickly for their mandatory Flagship Capstone year overseas. Intensive summer study also addresses the needs of students who may interrupt or slow down their Arabic learning because of other demands on their time.
