Kharley Redmon

1. Please state your full name, your home university and area of study?
My name is Kharley Emma Redmon. I am from the University of Mississippi where I majored in Arabic and
International Studies with a minor in journalism.
2. Why study Arabic?
I study Arabic because it not only allows me to travel, but is also a skill that I will hopefully be able to use in
my career as a journalist.
3. Why participate in the Flagship program?
The Flagship Program offers an intensive and wholistic study of the Arabic language. Moroccan Arabic is also
a different dialect that not many have an opportunity to learn!
4. What are you looking forward to the most during your Capstone year in Meknes?
I am looking forward to getting to know my host family and making new friends in Meknes and across
Morocco.
5. What are your future goals and how does this experience fit in to them?
I hope to become a journalist and use my language skills as a correspondent in the Middle East and North
Africa.
6. What advice would you give to future Flagship students?
I would push students to put as much into their Arabic study as possible and really seize opportunities to
immerse yourself in the culture.
7. Share something fun and interesting about yourself.
I worked for the campus newspaper for four years.
