Elizabeth Vise

1. Please state your full name, your home university and area of study?
Elizabeth (Betsy) Vise, University of Mississippi, International Studies with an emphasis on Global Economics and Business
2. Why study Arabic?
Studying Arabic connects you with a part of the world with a rich history, delicious food, and hospitable people. It’s completely changed my life by allowing me to access adventures and academic endeavors far outside what I planned for myself in high school.
3. Why participate in the Flagship program?
Flagship provides proficiency in Arabic and cultural competency through lengthy time abroad that other programs don’t offer. It also offers a cohort that drives you along your journey with Arabic.
4. What are you looking forward to the most during your Capstone year in Meknes?
I am excited for the internship portion both in and outside Meknes; it’s a unique opportunity to live in Arabic outside the classroom.
5. What are your future goals and how does this experience fit in to them?
I would love to be a Public Diplomacy Officer in the foreign service. A high level in Arabic would allow me to communicate American policy properly. This experience abroad will help me understand what programs and activities would be the most engaging in the MENA region.
6. What advice would you give to future Flagship students?
Start reviewing vocabulary from the beginning! Having a routine for this will make you more competitive in and outside the classroom
7. Share something fun and interesting about yourself.
I’ve only lived in three different SEC college towns!
