Dr. Sonia Shiri is the Stateside Director of the Center for Arabic Study Abroad. Dr. Shiri is also Associate Professor, Middle East Language Programs Coordinator, Director/PI of Project GO and Project GO-Advanced, and Director of the Arabic Flagship Program at the University of Arizona. Prior to joining the School of Middle Eastern & North African Studies (MENAS) at UArizona, Dr. Shiri coordinated the Arabic Program at the University of California, Berkeley, taught Arabic at Oxford University, and held a Research Fellowship at the Center for Women and Gender at Stanford University. She also acted as Senior Academic Director of the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) from 2009-2012 and as the Academic and Outreach Coordinator for the Berkeley Language Center from 2002-2005. Dr. Shiri received UC Berkeley’s Faculty Award for Outstanding Mentorship of Graduate Student Instructors in 2007 and CALICO’s Access to Language Education Award in 2008. She holds a PhD and MSc from Edinburgh University (UK) and a B.A. from the University of Tunis (Tunisia).
