2. Why study Arabic? |
I wanted to learn a globally spoken language which allows me to engage with a culture that is much different than my own. |
3. Why participate in the Flagship program? |
Through my time in college, I wanted to attain professional proficiency in Arabic which would set me up for an international career. |
4. What are you looking forward to the most during your Capstone year in Meknes? |
I’m most looking forward to immersing myself in Moroccan Arabic. In the US it’s really hard to find resources pertaining to Moroccan dialect, so I’m really excited to get more experience. |
5. What are your future goals and how does this experience fit in to them? |
After completion of capstone, I want to find a career teaching either Arabic or English and eventually go to graduate school. This program will help me attain the high level of Arabic proficiency needed for this, and give me work experience via an internship. |
6. What advice would you give to future Flagship students? |
Utilize every spare opportunity you get to practice. Whether that’s listening to music in Arabic in your free time or having a conversation with a classmate during break, every second you’re engaging with the Arabic language and culture, the better you’re getting at Arabic. |
7. Share something fun and interesting about yourself. |
Music is a very important part of my life! I play 5 instruments and was in IU’s Marching Band for 3 years. |
