Sarah Koger

Sarah is from Utah and majored in Biology and Arabic language at BYU. She was inspired by her community's work with refugees from Syria and North Africa to take an introductory Arabic class and decided to major in it after falling in love with the language and cultures. She decided to attend the Flagship program because it promised research opportunities and professional connections in the fields she is interested in as a biologist, neither of which have proven to be accessible through the program. Despite her disappointment with the empty words and successful advertisements offered by the Flagship program, Sarah hopes to return to North Africa and Morocco, to study climate change in desert ecosystems and collaborate with local researchers and indigenous communities in mitigating sociological impacts and protecting biodiversity.
