Nicholas Heil

Nicholas Arthur Heil, Brigham Young University, Middle Eas Studies / Arabic major with Physics minor - I'm studying Arabic because I'm passionate about languages and am generally very curious. From 2017 to 2018 served as a missionary for my church in Turkey, where I learned Turkish and Farsi. There, I worked extensively with refugees and locals as a volunteer and became very interested in Middle Eastern culture in general. I later decided to study the Middle East and Arabic full-time. I have been part of the Arabic Flagship for several years now and it has been a big factor in my language learning journey. The funding from Flagship has helped me participate in several study abroad opportunities over the last couple of years, and the current program has so far been very effective as a capstone to my studies.
